1. Are you wondering who you are? Have you ever pondered if you are a beaver or a meerkat? Which Harry Potter character you are? What city you should live in? It seems Buzzfeed has discovered a psychic black hole in humanity and filled it with quizzes designed to define ourselves and of course be shared on Facebook. Full disclosure, in the 'what Shakespeare character are you' quiz I got Beatrice from 'Much Ado About Nothing.'
2. Are you wondering who you are? BrainPickings, the best site on the Internet (IMHO) introduces us to Experimental philosopher Joshua Knobe, who spoke on 'How We Know Who We Are' in a Ted talk:
One specific thing [has] really been exploding in the past couple of years and this is experimental philosophy work on the notion of the self. This is work on questions about what is the self, how does the self extend over time, is there a kind of essence of the self, how do we know what falls inside or outside the self...?Obviously Dr. Knobe has not taken a Buzzfeed quiz.
3. I refuse to write about the weather on Facebook anymore and fail:
Day 1,127 of Winter 2014. I expect to see Bill Murray walking in my front door. It's the Groundhog Day of winters.4. Harold Ramis died, and we must now all work harder to fill up the funny hole he has left. He seemed to have thought a little about the self, too:
A psychologist said to me, there are only two important questions you have to ask yourself. What do you really feel? And, what do you really want? If you can answer those two, you probably can leave your neuroses behind you.And just realized #3 is also a paean to Harold, by accident. The best kind.
5. Says the character-challenged person who just bought a Harry Potter book charm bracelet on Etsy (see above).
