365 Poems: August, don't let me down

Day 214

Locust screaming from the pear tree.
Oh, August, here you are,
you month of locusts screaming and crickets ratcheting,
back-to-school sales and farmer's markets;
long dog days and a full corn moon,
last days of vacation and first day of school;
summer's long, lingering slide into fall.
