365 Poems: Thoroughbreds

Day 200

Boys want to be cowboys but girls fall in love with horses and do we ever get over it? We visit a thoroughbred farm and fall again: With the mare-moms, the yearlings, the foals, the stallion. The horses, big and little, come up to us at the fence and let us scratch around their ears and whisk the flies away and they nuzzle our hands as we feed them grass.

Our host said this one may be a true champion one day, but today he was just a friendly pony for the girls to pet.
