365 Poems: Death and resurrection of lilacs [UPDATED]

Day 151

[UPDATED. Forgot to mention is a first draft.]

Death and Resurrection of Lilacs

What I'll remember
come some frozen February afternoon
will not be your pale purple flowers
contrasted against the glossy green
of your branches,
or the way your florets fall
after I've plucked and placed
just a few panicles in a clear solo cup
on my desk.
What I'll remember is the heady, singular
fragrance, your once a year perfume,
tossed in the breeze,
drawing me in, I bury my nose
and breath you deep into my lungs
and my memory:
the sweet, sweet smell,
of May lilacs.
