The Lady speaks: Aung San Suu Kyi visits Fort Wayne

How fortunate was I, to be able to attend Tuesday's speech by Burmese Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi speak at our own Memorial Coliseum?
She spoke with sincerity, clarity, courage, and common sense. Her words about democracy -- which seemed to be the same word in Burmese as in English -- emphasized how delicate a democracy can be, how carefully one must be nurtured; that is surely as true in the U.S. as in Burma.
Suu Kyi expressed thanks to the community that has welcomed the Burmese refugees, but assured them they were still a part of their homeland.
And she encouraged her compatriots to take advantage of educational opportunities, and to remember their heritage even as they learn a new language and a new culture.
