Ghost Snow

Such stillness. A breath between now and night.
How does a day hold so much gray and gray and gray?
And then the snow. So small, soft, spare--
Could you possibly have stopped,
Caught in the chill, infinite air?
Reaching out to touch you,
Imagining forever. And yet you melt away.

For John.
