Great news for LOTR fans!

Jackson to produce ‘Rings’ prequel ‘Hobbit’ - Movies- "Jackson, who directed “Rings,” will serve as executive producer for two “Hobbit” pictures. They will tell the story of how the young hobbit Bilbo Baggins originally came to possess the nefarious One Ring that Frodo, his adopted heir, needed three films to dispose of."

  1. Oooooh, I believe I smell something bad coming up.

In the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, the material was there for three films. Three very long films, even, which we pretty much got with the extended DVD versions. After seeing those, I thought the only real problem was Mr. Jackson's deciding that his creative powers exceeded Tolkien's, causing him to invent some new material -- particularly egregiously in "The Two Towers."

Now comes news that there'll be two films made from "The Hobbit," which is one good-sized film's worth of story. Here comes more "creativity," as well as a double pass at the remaining benjamins.

I hope I'm wrong, and I may well be. But I don't see how you make two feature-length movies from "The Hobbit" without makin' some stuff up.

  2. Bartleby may be right on this one. But I'll still look forward to seeing them!
