Poll: 1 in 4 read no books last year - U.S. Life - MSNBC.com
I think reading for pleasure IS one of the greatest pleasures in life, but I'm always surprised by the number of people I talk to who read only for work, or only the Bible, or only non-fiction.
Of course in Ft. Wayne we have an amazing library system (hey, when is Aboite branch going to be expanded?) and have more books per person than most cities our size.
And Barnes and Noble at Jefferson Pointe sure is always busy.
As much as our schools push reading to kids--I know J. is required to read X amount of books, and gets credit for doing so, and loves his mom reading Harry Potter to him...there is so much that competes for his attention--video games, TV, sports, etc.--I don't know if he'll turn out to be a pleasure reader or not. Time will tell--he's only 10.
One guy that's interviewed talks about reading before he goes to bed--that he's so tired he just falls asleep. Maybe he needs to read more exciting stuff.
