Syndicated columnist Molly Ivins dies - Politics - MSNBC.com: "AUSTIN, Texas - Best-selling author and columnist Molly Ivins, the sharp-witted liberal who skewered the political establishment and referred to President Bush as “Shrub,” died Wednesday after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 62."
I heard this on NPR this morning, with great sadness. So few people can write with humor, and she excelled, writing of serious issues with wit, grace, and insight. I saw her speak at IPFW a few years ago, and was just shocked to arrive at the auditorium to a HUGE crowd, people coming out of the Ft. Wayne woodwork. It actually changed my mind about what kind of town Ft. Wayne was, and is. The Molly Ivins element, while raucous that night, exists under the radar, and one has to investigate a little to find them. Guess I'm one of them, huh?!
