And now, deep thoughts
Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture...Do not build up obstacles in your imagination. -- The Power of Positive Thinking still ranks as the best of the motivation books, in my regard.
What a grand thing, to be loved! What a grander thing still, to love! -- Blaise Pascal
May your service of love a beautiful thing; want nothing else, fear nothing else and let love be free to become what love truly is. -- Hadewijch of Antwerp
Reading well is one of the great pleasures that solitude can afford you.
-- Harold Bloom, O Magazine, April 2003
Bad haiku of the day
Gold, shiny, dangly,
She flings her head to show off
Those sexy earrings.
The only failure
Is in giving up. Although
Sometimes, you move on.
This morning
Miracle: not cloudy. Stepped outside a moment. Sun not yet rising over the houses behind us, but red and pink spreading throughout the sky. A ring of navy all around the horizon. Above, night had not yet fully retreated; the brightest stars -- and planets -- still shone. Crisply cold; ground covered in frosts and the light snow of yesterday. After days of wind, stillness. Not even any sounds of traffic. My breath cloudy before me.
